This week saw the celebration of the 50th anniversary of two significant events, the first ascent of Mount Everest on 29 May 1953, and the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953.
Sir Edmund Hillary was aged 33 at the time, his climbing partner Tenzing Norgay was 37 and Queen Elizabeth 27. Tenzing died in 1986, but Hillary and the Queen lived to celebrate the 50th anniversary - Hillary at the base of the mountain once again and the Queen in Westminster Abbey where she was crowned.
