Australian CEO Demographics
An article by Michael Cave in the weekend Financial Review provides analysis of the ages of the CEO's of the 25 largest Australian companies listed on the ASX. Average age was 55 with the range from 43 to 73(Rupert Murdoch) and only 5 above age 60. This interest in ages was also inspired by the Prime Minister John Howard who turned 64 on Saturday and is still going strong.
So why do Australian CEO's give it away at earlier ages than their overseas counterparts like Sanford Weill at 70 (See FinDem News http://www.findem.com.au/news/displayArticle.php?id=212). Perhaps it's the wonderful lifestyle in Australia and the urge to spend more time with grandchildren which pop out around age 60. Earlier access to superannuation than in other countries may also have something to do with it.
