Today the ABS released their latest population projections which show that, on the middle of three assumption sets, the population will reach 26 million in 2051 and remain steady at that thorugh to 2101. The median population age, which is now around 36, will increase to 48 by 2051. By 2051 the population of Queensland will have overtaken Victoria.
FinDem has been monitoring when the population is likley to be 20 million. Based on the latest ABS population figure as at 31 December 2002, we estimate the ABS Population Clock will show 20 million on 12 December 2003.
