Stockmarket up 23.2%

At the end of February the Australian All Ordinaries Share Price index had risen 23.2% over the past year. The value of all shares listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (asx) is now pushing the trillion dollar mark, being valued at $931 billion as at end of February - and above the value of the economy as per annual rate of GDP which was $801 billion based on 2004 December quarter.

This week the ASX released details of the latest survey of share ownership which showed 23% of the over age-18 population directly own shares. Of these people, 56% are over age 55. You can access the full survey details at http://www.asx.com.au/about/Media_AA2.shtm
