September Stockmarket Highs
The Australian stock market has brushed off the July and August shakeout with a price index rise of 5.3% for the month of September. This is the highest month's rise since April 2001. For the 12 months ending September 2007, the index is up 28.7%. As October 2007 looms into view, stories of the 20th anniversary of the October 1987 crash start to appear. In October 1987, the Australian market index fell 42% in one month. The year to September 1987 was a bubble year with the market up 78.8%.
