Household Savings at 2.9% - Household Debt at Record Levels
On 5 June the Australian Bureau of Statistics released the national accounts figures for March 2002. In trend current price terms, the proportion of household disposable income devoted to consumption in the quarter was 97.1%. The balance, household saving, was 2.9%. A graph provided by ABS shown in our resources section shows a declining trend in household savings since 1990 when the ratio was at 10%.
