RESEARCH PAPER: Housing Prices in Australia 1970-2003
This research paper published September 2004, by Peter Abelson and Demi Chung provides an excelent analysis of the different long term data series available for house prices in Australia. It studies the relevance of changing samples, property improvements and renovations and other problems involved with comparing house prices over time. The paper concludes that price booms occurred in 1971-74, 1979-81, 1987-89 and 1996-2003 and that after each of these booms, inflation adjusted prices of housing fell.
