Price Inflation 2.6%

The ABS today released the CPI for the September quarter which shows price inflation for the last year at 2.6% for Australia. Biggest price movers over the year were Hospital and Medical services up 9.3% and computing equipment down 20.8% (partly due to the appreciation of the A$ versus offshore currencies). Health costs have increased 7.7%pa over the past 3 years.

Biggest rise over the year by capital city was Adelaide at 3.6% and lowest Canberra at 1.8%.

Average price inflation over the 103 years from 1900 to September 2003 is 3.9%pa
