Young Running Legend Dies
Cliff died at home in Queensland on Sunday afternoon November 2 following a long illness, aged 81. He became a national hero when he won the inaugural Sydney to Melbourne marathon in 1983, aged 61. Australians fell in love with the potato farmer from Colac who shuffled his way to the finish line of the 875km race in just under six days. He became famous for his running style and for training in gumboots on his potato farm.
